You may have heard about some shady practices and scams regarding asphalt paving companies all over social media.
But how do you actually go about picking the right asphalt paving contractor for the job – whether it be large or small?
Here, firstly, are some of the myths about what a reputable asphalt paving contractor will do or won’t do…
A GENUINE ASPHALT COMPANY WILL NOT TRY AND UPSELL PRODUCTS
No, this is completely untrue. In actual fact, the opposite is true. A genuine asphalt company will do everything they can do to upsell a product you might need.
And this is not because they are on commission and trying to make extra money (although they may be on commission anyway). It is because no reputable company is going to try and seal coat your driveway without repairing it first!
If the salesperson or the company rep has spotted that your driveway has cracks in it, then they are acting responsibly by informing you of this.
They would actually be negligent in their duties if they agreed to seal coat your driveway without doing the repair. This is because the crack or pothole will get bigger and cause even more damage to the vehicles parked on your driveway.
The sales person or rep to distrust in this situation, is the one who tells you they can save you money, simply by seal coating over the pothole. This will ruin your driveway.
A GENIUNE ASPHALT COMPANY WILL NOT GO DOOR TO DOOR
This is patently untrue. All asphalt companies will go door to door in the attempt to get your custom. And that goes as much for the genuine ones as it does the rogues.
This is simply because going door to door is a good way of selling the services of asphalt driveways. Particularly when the sales person can see whether that home owner needs their driveway re-doing!
FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE TIPS TO HIRE THE RIGHT TRADESPERSON
Check out the person or the company’s social media accounts. Do they have a Facebook page for their business?
What do their other customers say and do they say about this business?
Call the company. How did they answer the phone? Were they professional?
The company or person should be happy to answer your questions and point you in the direction of previous customers.
Genuine companies have genuine customers who are happy to give references.
